After matriculating from St. Brendan High School, Marilyn attended the University of Miami from which she graduated as summa cum laude with a degree in psychology, and later went to Georgetown University Law Center to earn her Juris Doctor. After studying, she worked at Harvard Law School, focusing on training for the Guatemala Project.
After Harvard, she became an assistant state attorney for Dade County. She worked there for a while until she was assigned to the Miami Circuit Court, working in the Domestic Violence, Civil and Criminal divisions. Two years later she became the judge of “The People’s Court” which is the second longest-running reality court show in the world. Since her debut, she’s become the longest running arbitrator in the show up to its 30th season, with “The People’s Court” continuing to broadcast and their latest season is Milian’s 15th season which aired from September 2015. The show has significantly boosted her popularity and net worth, and part of it is due to the fact that she acts unlike other arbiters before her. 1 | I am excited to become the first female judge of the longest-running court show on the air. I am also honored to be the first Judge to represent the Hispanic culture on television...During my service in the Courts, I found the small claims cases to be the most rewarding. Hopefully with my firm grip on the issues, plus a little humor, the viewers at home can learn something. |
